The Office of Online Student Success exists to create an environment where students feel supported as members of the Syracuse University community.  Online Student Success provides students with proactive and holistic advisement, as well as coordination of resources and strategies to empower academic and personal development & success.

Your Online Success Advisor

Each student admitted to an online degree program is assigned an online success advisor. Your advisor will work with you from the point of admission throughout your degree progression. Part of our goal is to provide proactive and holistic outreach to you to help create an individualized experience. You will hear from our team often! Here are just some examples of what you can expect from your online success advisor:

Academic Advising

  • Proactive outreach and check-in
  • Transcript evaluation
  • Identifying your degree requirements & options
  • Assistance with course selection and registration
  • Monitoring of your academic progress

Online Success Advising

  • Connection to a diversity of strategies to help you feel comfortable in the online environment
  • Overview information on how to use Blackboard, the online learning management system where all of your course information is stored
  • Individual and/or group practice sessions in the live session web conferencing platform to help prepare you for that first live class session

Holistic Support

  • Connections and access to Syracuse University resources and support
  • Prompt response and/or appropriate referral for any of your questions (if we don’t know the answer, we will connect you with someone who will).
  • Regular tips, announcements, and reminders to help support your academic experience

The Orange Online Toolkit

The Online Student Success Team manages a crucial online resource for your use called the Orange Online Toolkit. Upon admission, you will be granted access to the Toolkit through Blackboard. You can log-in to Blackboard using your Syracuse University NetID and password. The Toolkit is regularly updated with information for quick and easy access, including but not limited to:

  • Overview of how to use SU online platforms (MySlice, Blackboard, Orange Success, etc)
  • Navigating asynchronous course content
  • Navigating synchronous course content (live sessions)
  • Tips for success as an online student
  • Information on other relevant Syracuse University resources and policies
