The No. 7 session of the Institute for Retired People (IRP) will feature Merike Trier, executive director of the Downtown Committee.  Trier will discuss renovations taking place in downtown, including the Pike Block. She will also describe why young professionals and “empty nesters” are leaving the suburbs and moving downtown and how locally owned and operated businesses are also finding their way to the city’s center.

Trier graduated from SUNY Binghamton and the State University of New York College at Geneseo.

Meetings are held on every first and third Thursday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Syracuse, 5833 E. Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville.
