New director of Summer @ Syracuse announced

Christopher Cofer, director of Summer College at University College, has been named director of Summer@Syracuse. Cofer joined SU in April 2007.

Cofer earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Northern Arizona University in 1996 and a master’s degree in recreation and leisure services from SUNY Cortland in 2002.

Prior to his position at SU, Cofer was the director of children and teen services at the Jewish Community Center of Syracuse from 2000-05. He then served as director of Summer Programs at the Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Conn., from 2005-07.

“As director of Summer College, Chris has earned the respect of the campus community while providing exceptional leadership in advancing the mission of Summer@Syracuse,” says UC Dean Bea González.

In his role as director, Cofer will coordinate and direct the administrative and operational activities of the summer sessions while meeting the multidimensional mission of the University. He will work with the University’s schools and colleges to evaluate, plan, organize and promote expanded opportunities for the support of credit and non-credit course programming in the summer. He will also provide central planning and advocacy support to coordinate cross-college initiatives, and promote long-range planning and marketing for summer programming.
